Archbishop-Emeritus calls faithful to live as “people of light” in Easter Mass

Today, on Easter Sunday, Cebu Archbishop-Emeritus Jose S. Palma presided over the Holy Mass at the Cebu Metropolitan Cathedral after the traditional “Sugat,” or the reenactment of the first encounter of the Risen Christ and the Virgin Mary.

Archbishop-Emeritus Palma reflected on the joy of the celebration, reminding the faithful to live as people of light and victory.

He emphasized that Christ’s Resurrection, which brought Him new life, is not meant for Him alone but for all of us—a new life that enables us to overcome sin and sorrow.

With Christ’s Resurrection, the good Archbishop-Emeritus urged the faithful to remain hopeful that the goodness they have experienced here on earth, despite struggles and challenges, will continue in heaven.

The faithful also renewed their Baptismal Promises, which is a highlight in today’s liturgy.
