On this Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ (Corpus Christi), the Blessed Sacrament Parish in North Reclamation Area, Cebu City, celebrates its 60th annual parochial fiesta.
Cebu Archbishop Alberto “Abet” Uy presided over the Holy Mass. He was joined by the parish team of pastors led by Fr. Rolando Detera, MSP (Parish Priest) and other visiting priests.
Reflecting on today’s Solemnity, Archbishop Abet underscored in his homily that the Eucharist is not merely a symbol or a religious ritual, but the true and living presence of Jesus Christ.
“Ang Eyukaristiya, dili ni simbolo. Dili handumanan. Dili ni relihiyoso nga kalihukan o ritwal. Kini mao gayod si Kristo,” he emphasized.
The Archbishop also reminded the faithful that the Solemnity of Corpus Christi is a powerful proclamation that God remains with His people. Every tabernacle, he said, stands as a sacred sign of Christ’s enduring presence in the midst of His Church, calling believers to spend time with Him in prayer and adoration before the Blessed Sacrament.
“Mohatag gayod kita og panahon nga makig-uban sa Diyos diha sa Eyukaristiya, uban sa pagtahud, pagtuo, ug pagpasalamat. Ug mogahin sad ta og panahon nga molingkod, moluhod ug makig-uban niya diha sa Balaang Sakramento,” said Archbishop Abet.
Concluding his reflection, the good Archbishop exhorted the faithful to remember that the Eucharist is not a reward reserved for the perfect, but a source of strength and nourishment for pilgrims on the journey of faith—men and women who, despite their weaknesses and sins, continue striving to follow Christ with trust, humility, and hope.
Prior to the Holy Mass, Archbishop Abet blessed the new oratory of the parish.
