“If God were to ask you today, “What have I done to make you stop loving Me?”—how would you answer?

That is exactly what we hear in today’s First Reading. God speaks almost like a wounded parent: “My people, what have I done to you? How have I wearied you?” (Micah 6:3)

Notice that God is not angry. He is heartbroken. He reminds His people, “I brought you out of Egypt. I freed you from slavery. I have been faithful to you.”

In other words, God is saying, “I have never stopped loving you. Why have you drifted away from Me?”

Sometimes we are like that. When life is good, we become too busy for God. We remember Him only when we are sick, when we have problems, or when our plans fail. Yet even then, God never stops waiting for us.

Then comes another beautiful question in today’s reading: “What shall I bring before the Lord?” Should I offer expensive sacrifices? Thousands of rams? Rivers of oil?

And God answers with one of the most beautiful verses in the Bible: “You have been told what is good: to do justice, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God” (Micah 6:8).

God is telling us something very important. He is not impressed by the size of our offerings if our hearts remain unchanged. Coming to Mass is important. Praying the rosary is important. Lighting candles is beautiful. Making pilgrimages is good. But if after all these we still cheat, steal people’s money, ignore the poor, refuse to forgive, or speak harshly, then we have missed the point. God wants not only our religious practices. He wants our lives.

Today’s reading gives us three simple reminders.

First, do justice.

Be honest even when nobody is watching. Treat people fairly. Do not take advantage of others simply because you can.

Second, love mercy.

Forgive. Be patient. Choose kindness over revenge. Remember how patient God has been with us.

And third, walk humbly with your God.

Humility means recognizing that every blessing comes from Him. It also means allowing God—not our pride—to guide our decisions.

Many people ask, “What does God want from me?”

Today’s reading gives a very simple answer. Not extraordinary things. Just be honest. Be kind. Stay close to God. That is already a beautiful life.

Faith and confidence

Let me end with a story.

A little girl was drawing a picture in school. Her teacher asked, “What are you drawing?”

She answered, “I’m drawing God.”

The teacher smiled and said, “But nobody knows what God looks like.”

Without looking up, the little girl replied, “They will in a few minutes.”

Final Words

People may never see God with their eyes. But they should be able to see Him in us. When we choose justice over dishonesty…Mercy over anger…Humility over pride…People begin to recognize what God is like.”
