The parishioners of San Lorenzo Ruiz Parish in Tisa, Cebu City, joyfully celebrate today their 39th Annual Fiesta Celebration, with the theme: “Listening with the heart of Christ, witnessing with the courage of San Lorenzo.”
The Pontifical Mass was presided over by Cebu Archbishop Alberto “Abet” S. Uy, together with Fr. Reil R. Cantillas (Parish Priest), Fr. Dave Christopher Cantillas (Parochial Vicar), and other visiting priests.
In his homily, Archbishop Abet first reflected on the Gospel parable of the two sons, particularly the one who initially said no but later changed his mind and followed his father’s command.
He reminded the faithful that, like this son, we too may have moments when we turn away from God, but what matters is our willingness to repent, change, and return to Him.
“Mga igsuon, storya kini sa atong kinabuhi, labi na gayud sa atong pagka-Kristiyano. Nabunyagan ta, nahimo tang Kristiyano, ug sa usa ka paagi, nagtubo ta nga niingon, ‘Yes, Lord, musunod ko Nimo,'” said Archbishop Abet.
Deepening his reflection, the good Archbishop drew from the life and example of San Lorenzo Ruiz, who remained firm in his faith despite suffering and adversity.
He encouraged the faithful to have the courage to choose God, especially when faced with temptation, difficulties, and moments when it is easier to choose otherwise.
“Kay daghang higayon maapiki ta ug mopili ta og magbinuang. Kung maapiki ta sa kwarta, matintal ta nga manikas, mamintaha sa uban. Ang uban, bisan wa maapiki, mamintaha gihapon, mangurakot pa gyud. Pero ug ugaling maapiki ta, please continue to choose God,” he said.
