Cebu Archbishop Alberto “Abet” Uy has issued an Oratio Imperata for the Care of Creation and Our Common Home, available in both English and Cebuano.

All parishes across the Archdiocese of Cebu are encouraged to include the prayer in all Masses tomorrow, September 6, as the Church continues its observance of the Season of Creation.

As one Church and one people entrusted with the care of God’s creation, let us bring before the Lord the needs of our common home and ask for the grace to become faithful stewards of the earth.

Oratio Imperata alang sa Pag-amuma sa Kabuhatan ug sa atong Hiniusang Puloy-anan

Makagagahum ug Mahigugmaong Diyos,
Magbubuhat sa langit ug sa yuta,
nagpasalamat kami kanimo sa gasa sa kabuhatan
ug sa maanindot nga puloy-anan nga imong gisalig kanamo.

Tudlo-i kami sa pagpamati-sa hilak sa kinaiyahan
ug sa hilak sa mga kabus
nga maoy nag-antos sa pagkaguba sa kalikopan.

Pasayloa kami sa among kakuwang sa pagmatngnon,

Oratio Imperata for the Care of Creation and Our Common Home

Almighty and loving God, Creator of heaven and earth,
we thank You for the gift of creation
and for the beautiful home You have entrusted to us.

Teach us to listen–
to the cry of the earth
and to the cry of the poor
who suffer because of environmental destruction.

Forgive us for our carelessness,
for the times we waste what You have given us,
and for the times we fail to care for our common home.

Lord, let Your grace flow through us.
May our prayer lead us to action,
our faith lead us to stewardship,
and our love for You lead us to care for Your creation.

Give us the courage to protect our forests,
rivers, seas, mountains, and communities.
Teach us to live simply,
to waste less, and to care for one another.

Bless our families, parishes, schools, and communities
as we work together to care for our common home.
May our small efforts, when done by many,
become a mighty river of change.

Make us a Listening Church–
a Church that hears, responds, and acts;
a Church that brings life wherever she flows.

Through the intercession of Mary, Mother of Creation’s Lord,
St. Joseph, the Good Steward,
and Saint Francis of Assisi, patron saint of ecology,
